Big step forward for Punjab MassTransit as the first electric vehicle Orange train kickstarted its operations. The long-awaited Orange Train opened its doors to Lahore metropolis today. It is the Punjab Government’s first step towards greener transitions in mega transport projects.
The train was introduced on Sunday and available for public traveling from Monday.
The route of the train will start from Dera Gujran station to Raiwind’s Ali Town. The Train to transport 350000 passengers every year. The train has 200 seats and space for standing passengers is 800.
It would be interesting to see from Pakistan’s energy and transport transitions point of view how this project will unfold pathways for upcoming electric vehicles to Pakistan’s market.
The train will travel 27km track in just 45 minutes at a speed of 80km/h, 26 stations have been built, among them, two stations are built underground. The fare for the whole route will be 40 PKR only.
All expenses will be incurred by the Government of Punjab (GOP) according to the government it will further expedite its efforts to work on an electric mode of transportation as it is greener and economical.
On Sunday two separate inauguration ceremonies were organized in Lahore. One by the Punjab Government (PTI) and another one by PML-N.
This project was started by the PML-N government in the past and then completed by the PTI government. However, it is a big win for Pakistan and especially the Government of Punjab (GOP) on meeting sustainability and transition goals.
