Now KPK, Sindh and Balochistan can enjoy Hi-Speed Mobile broadband service

On Monday 74th Board of Directors meeting of Universal Service Fund (USF) led by Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui Federal Secretary Ministry of IT and Telecommunication.

The Board affirmed, and the Award of agreements to Telenor, Zong, Ufone, and PTCL worth PKR 5.11 billion through the Next Generation Broadband for Sustainable Development program and the Next Generation Optical Fiber Network and Services program.

Kashmore, Ghotki, Sukkur, and Khairpur districts in the province of Sindh are being awarded by the PTCL contract.

The Next Generation Optical Fiber Network and Services project worth around PKR 03 billion is pointed toward laying of 1078 km of Optical Fiber Cable to interface 140 towns and union councils accordingly giving fast broadband services to an unserved populace of roughly 4.7 million.

Furthermore, the Board also approved the award of contracts to Telenor, Zong, and Ufone under the Next Generation Broadband for Sustainable Development Program price PKR 02 billion.

Telenor is being granted the agreement of Chitral, Upper Dir, and Lower Dir districts in the territory Khyber Pakhtunkhwa whereby an unserved population of around 0.7 million will profit by fast broadband services in 648 unserved towns and a rough unserved zone of 18,212 sq. km.

Similarly, Zong is being awarded the contract of Karachi West and Malir areas in the territory of Sindh that will value an unserved population of nearly 0.1 million in 36 unserved villages and nearly 690 sq. km of unserved area.

Likewise, Ufone is being awarded the agreement of Mastung and Ziarat regions in the province of Balochistan to serve an unserved population of roughly 0.1 million in 226 unserved villages and an approximate unserved area of 6,324 sq. km

The basic purpose of these projects is not only to promote the tourism infrastructure of the country but also to connect the rural population with the digital world said to the Federal Secretary Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui.

The digital world is the availability and use of digital tools to communicate on the Internet, digital devices, smart devices, and other digital devices.

Additionally, he said that the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication is pulling out all the stops to provide broadband services to every Pakistani and achieve the Digital Pakistan vision.

Earlier, Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary the Chief Executive Officer of USF briefed the Board members about the projects. He thanked the high authorities including Federal Minister Syed Amin Ul Haque, the Federal Secretary and Chairman of USF Board, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, and the Board members for entrusting him.

Other board members including Maj. Gen (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa, Chairman PTA; Shabahat Ali Shah, CEO-NITB; Irfan Wahab, CEO-Telenor Pakistan; Imran Akhtar Shah, VP for Government Sales, SuperNet Pvt Ltd and Nominee of Data Licensees; Rashid Khan, CEO-PTCL and Nominee of Fixed Line Operators; Kaukab Iqbal, Chairman-Consumer Association of Pakistan and Nominee of Consumer Group; Muhamad Omar Malik, Member- Telecom and management of USF Co. also attended the meeting.
